What is WELCA ?
All women attending Calvary are considered members of WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) and are encouraged to participate in its activities. The usual meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7 pm in the church meeting room with Bible Study and fellowship. We also have lunch together at a restaurant in the summer and a Valentines Day party. Recent service projects have included work days at what was the Lutheran Social Services warehouse in Vinton County, providing personal hygiene products for distribution at Calvary’s monthly community meals , the collection of yarn for use by state inmates in the creation of warm clothing accessories for those is need, new socks and underwear for the Children's Clothing Bank, and monetary donations to support the various missions of Calvary. In addition, WELCA members established “Caring Hearts - Caring Hands”, which started Calvary’s prayer quilt project. Members also recently hosted and participated in the annual Spring Gathering of the women of the Scioto Conference, Southern Ohio Synod of the ELCA. We’d love to have you join us for any or all of our activities!

Prayer Quilts
A number of new prayer quilts were blessed during our service. These quilts were created and knotted by the women of Calvary for distribution as needed to members suffering from significant health or other concerns. Prayers are offered for those who will receive the quilts as the knots are tied. The quilts are designed to provide comfort as the knots, when touched by the recipient, can serve as reminders of the many prayers that have been offered on his or her behalf.
Since the project began in 2015, 43 prayer quilts have been distributed. Thanks to the many women who helped to knot these new quilts, and a special thanks to Dee Christy for donation of much of the fabric used in these quilts.
